Well it’s Friday. Seems like less and less people care about these polls, so unless I get some real responses I think this could be the last one. Well Abin Sur is about to die, and all of these people are equal distance form him. Who should get the ring and why?

Are there any standard qualifications to be a green lantern? I imagine the guardians have some kind of screening process before they give out that kind of power (such as having not committed mass murder in their past *cough* Vegeta *cough*)

Are there any standard qualifications to be a green lantern? I imagine the guardians have some kind of screening process before they give out that kind of power (such as having not committed mass murder in their past *cough* Vegeta *cough*) The Guardians of the Universe used to have only two requirements to be a green lantern: to be honest and without fear. Its clear they have changed there policy a little after the Parallax thing, but they have not said what the new policy is. So for this poll we will go with the old rule, to be honest and without fear. Which Vegeta is!

Well I think the only person those requirements weed out is Sam since he definitely has fear.
How about this, what is a Green Lantern's purpose? Is it just to guard their given planet/realm?

Well I think the only person those requirements weed out is Sam since he definitely has fear. How about this, what is a Green Lantern's purpose? Is it just to guard their given planet/realm? The guardians felt really bad about the fact that one of their number released evil into the world. So they made the Green Lantern corps to patrol the 3600 sectors they divide the universe into(each sector normlay has more then one planet in it). The best description is “intergalactic police force.” (They tried robots first but the robots thought the best way to make the universe orderly was to kill all the living things, so the Guardians had to scrape them) Oh and I found this sight if you have more questions en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Lantern_Corpsand look it has the new rules "Upon recruitment, a Green Lantern is expected to uphold certain principles of his/her/its duty. These principles include: 1. Protection of life and liberty with the assigned sector. 2. Following the orders of the Guardians without question. 3. Noninterference with a planet's culture, political structure or its population's collective will. 4. Acting within local laws and obey the local authority within reason. (Presumably, The Guardians' orders can overrule this when necessary). 5. Taking no action against anyone or anything until they are proven to be a threat against life and liberty. 6. Refusing to use the equipment, resources or authority of The Corps for personal gain. 7. Showing respect for and cooperating with other members of the Corps and the Guardians. 8. Showing respect for life which includes restraint of force unless there is no reasonable alternative. 9. Giving top priority to the greatest danger in the assigned sector. 10. Upholding the honor of the Corps."

Also "The Corps is an organization of 7200 Green Lanterns (the old Corps had 3600) who are chosen by the ring for being able to overcome great fear," Sam is still in it!

wow, if you don't link me to these polls I completely forget that they exist until its time to study for an Analytical Dynamics Exam tomorrow.
I posted this before I actually read the options, so I'll go do that and vote

GOTTA go with Jean-Luc on this one.
The rest of them don't really seem 'defender of a galactic sector' type of people (even if they technically meet the requirements).
Wolverine definately lacks restraint.
Ash proved to not be the right guy, cause he got himself into a position of influence and had wenches serving him and stuff. Though I do admire his engineering talents (I hopefully will be building a glove like that over the summer)
Richard would definately use that power to kill lots of Muslims.
judge dread would probably be another good choice, but he seems too willing to resort to busting caps, again the restraint thing. Same for Vegeta.
I guess it pretty much comes down to Sam and Jean-Luc, and I've gotta go with Jean-Luc cause is a leader character, whereas Sam wise is the faithful sidekick character

I agree with your assessment, but I think that in the event he was given the power, Captain Picard would refuse being given the ring. He'd consider using its power to be cheating in his duty as a Starfleet officer, or something along those lines. It's similar to why Riker refused being granted the power of Q.
By process of elimination that leaves Sam. Plus I think it would be funny to introduce another magical ring into Middle Earth in the hands of a Hobbit.

What you're not realizing Joe is that the GL Corps would be different from the Continuum. If the GL Corps existed in Star Trek then clearly the Federation would not only be aware of its existence but would probably work very closely with the Corps in maintaining galactic peace.
Giving Jean-Luc the opportunity to join such an organization would merely be a step up in the same organization really. It would expand his opportunities to help people and to help humanity as well. It isn't like when Riker is offered the power of Q with all that they already know about Q pulling tricks on them and being generally an asshole.

I would agree, but that's only if the GL Corps existed in the Star Trek universe so that Starfleet would know to trust them. However, in the context of this poll, Taylor said that everyone in consideration is an equal distance from the ring. The only way that can happen is if the GL Corps is coming to them from the DC Universe. If the Corps was placed into the Star Trek universe then Picard would be chosen by default since he'd be the closest.
That being the case, I don't believe that Picard would accept the ring without extensive convincing. And by the time he was convinced, I think the ring would have found someone else. Although Taylor would be the better authority on that point. I'm not entirely sure how this works, but has anyone ever refused the power of the ring, or made the ring wait to accept its power?

Normly what would happen would the the ring would take you to the Guardians, I think. You would have to tell them "No." Abin Sur would also talk to him for a bit. BUt besides all of that. Who would the ring go to? Which one would IT choose? Who would IT go to first.

Well then, given the question of who would the ring pick, regardless of whether they want it, I also side with Captain Picard.
