I have to admit. I actually stopped playing after Mirage. I hated the set, thought it was complete crap compared to Ice Age. I didn't buy any new Magic cards again until Apocalypse.

I actually enjoyed Mirage, granted I think Ice Age was better, but Mirage had some good times for me. The Mirage block did mark the end of my heyday though, as I got as far as buying a single starter pack of Tempest before stopping Magic from 10th grade until I came to college.
On a separate thought, do you actually need a DCI card to go to the prerelease? The poll implies that's a prerequisite.

An excellent question. Yes, to play in any of the sanctioned Prerelease tournaments you need a DCI card. Never fear however, there is a 99% chance that you can sign up for the DCI @ the tournament, or you can get sanctioned over at the Portal.
