So here you are, looking at the forums for my d20 Future game. You are probably wondering exactly how this all works. Perhaps you've played games in chatrooms before but odds are that you have not. The game works in two internet mediums: IRC and This Forum.
Internet Relay Chat
If you need information on setting up any of the IRC software or scripts, check out the IRC board on this forum. IRC will be used for what is essentially the real-time aspect of this game. When you are in the IRC chatroom everything you say is considered to be an in-character comment. If you would like to make an OOC comment you can use a different chat room or you can use private messages. You can also use private messages and different chatrooms if there are things you only want to tell the GM or things the GM needs to tell you. Sessions in IRC will be like a normal pencil-and-paper session. They will last between 3 ~ 5 hours and encompass at least one major plot event.
Forum Roleplaying
The forum will be used for roleplaying outside of the chatroom. Forum-style roleplaying involves character action only. Perhaps several members of the party want to take a side quest to hunt down a bounty on a wanted mutant or they need to make the trek to the himilayas to seek out an ancient tibetan treasure. There are several things you need to keep in mind for this type of roleplaying: 1) You must wait for either another player or the GM to respond to your post. 2) If you perform an action that requires a die-roll, use average dice (take a 10 on d20 rolls). 3) There is no combat in forum roleplay. If you manage to sneak up on someone and pop them in the back of the head, that is okay, but the game can not enter initiative. If it does then the forum thread is closed until the combat is resolved during an IRC session.
