This is a topic I've created for the people who will be participating in the club organized Magic draft on November 13th at our regular meeting time and place (7 pm, Ulrich). Feel free to hash out the logistics here.
Have at it!
Edit - I pushed back the date to accommodate Joe, who will be helping to facilitate the draft.

Ok, here's some basic information about how the draft will work. As Jay said, it will be a Bring-Your-Own Draft. This means you will buy 3 Magic Booster packs of your choice and bring them to the meeting.
Since the draft doesn't focus on any particular set, this means that there's no real strategy to doing the drafting and you don't need any particular knowledge of specific sets. So even if you haven't played Magic since Ice Age, it's ok, you'll be on mostly equal footing with the more experienced players.
Two important things about the packs you bring: 1) The packs you bring must be UNOPENED. 2) Please do not bring packs of foreign cards to the draft. Anyone who breaks this rule will be banned from the draft and beaten with a rubber chicken.
IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED IN A DRAFT BEFORE: Don't worry, it's easy to do. A draft works as follows. Everyone sits around a table with their three unopened packs. You then open your first pack, take ONE card from the 15, and pass the remainder of the cards to your left. Then you take what the person to your right passes you, pick another card, and pass to the left, etc. You do the same thing with the second pack, except that you pass the cards to the right. Finally you do the same thing with the third pack and pass to the left. After that, you will build a deck of at least 40 cards from the cards that you've drafted, and play the tournament with that deck.
General Information
The rules for this tournament follow the standard procedure for any draft. This is a limited event which means you are only allowed to use the cards you get at the event and lands provided. All lands MUST be returned! You get to keep the cards that you draft.
Each player is required to bring 3 packs of booster cards from any of the allowed sets. See below for restrictions. They do not have to be from the same set, nor do they have to be from the current standard sets. For example, if you would like to bring a pack each of Ice Age, Mirage, and Prophecy, that is perfectly okay!
Restrictions
You may not use packs from any of the following sets: - Alpha (They have rounded edges) - Collectors Edition (They have gold backs) - The Dark (8 Cards / Pack) - Chronicles (12 Cards / Pack) - Fallen Empires (8 Cards / Pack) - Homelands (8 Cards / Pack) - Unglued (8 Cards / Pack)
Deck Construction Remember that you will be drafting a pool of 45 cards. Your final deck must have at least 40 cards in it. Any cards you draft that are not in your deck are considered on your sideboard unless they are banned in which case they are not considered to be availble. I will provide lands for deck construction and they MUST be returned when you are finished in the tournament.
Format The draft will be a swiss format most likely consisting of 3 rounds and then a top 4. This is subject to change however, depending on time.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions!

Prize suggestion: 6 booster packs for first place and 3 booster packs for the runner-up.
I think that's sufficient incentive to win, right?

Where are good places to get boosters locally? It sounds like a pretty entertaining format, having a completely random draft, but I'm not sure where to get interesting cards. No unzipped either? or yes - I think it might have 15 card packs. [although if you want real games with a real winner it probably wouldn't be such a great idea]. (also, if someone wants to bring a pack of alpha for us to tear into, I really think you should just allow them to do that =P)

The closest place I know to buy boosters is at the Portal. They're down Stefko Blvd. Here's their website: www.theportalcomicsandgaming.com/And I think you mean Unhinged, not Unzipped . If you want to bring Unhinged you can, if you can find any (I haven't seen a vendor with Unhinged cards in about a year, but I haven't really been looking very hard) We included a few packs of Unhinged at our gaming club draft last year. Just don't bring UnGLUED because as stated above, there are only 8 cards in the pack. Unhinged has 15. Technically, yes, drafting Unhinged leaves a little more up to chance than skill. But we try to keep the club draft as casual as we can so it's fun for everyone and gives more of a chance to people who haven't played Magic in a while. For the record, I won't be bringing any Unhinged (I'm bringing Dissension, Coldsnap, and Scourge ) but if someone wants to track down some Unhinged cards badly enough, we'll play with it.

I would bring in a rotation of Urza if the packs weren't worth 20$ a piece.
